Over the past three years our school has become involved in the Active School Flag and was successful this year in obtaining the flag.
The Active Flag is a non-competitive initiative which seeks to recognise schools that strive to achieve physical activity and a physically educated school community. It is also to develop awareness amongst the students in the importance of physical activity in maintaining a healthy life.
As a school we prioritised the first two key messages of the P.E. Curriculum -
1. The importance of enjoyment and play.
2. Maximise participation by all children in all activities.
This involved the setting up of sports committees, noticeboard, etc., which organised and coordinated various activities.
Each year an Active Week is held for the whole school in the promoting of physical activity.
All the hard work has culminated in the success of our school achieving the Active School Flag this year. To celebrate this feat Cork Senior Footballer Ciarán Sheehan did the honours in raising the Active School flag. A fantastic day was had by all.
Work is ongoing continually to improve physical activity throughout the school and the maintaining of our Active School Flag.
