St. Mary's N.S. have taken part in The Green Schools programme since 2006.
We studied Litter and Waste as our first theme. We managed to reduce waste going to landfill by 50%. All paper and cardboard is recycled. Waste organic material is put in the compost bin and is used in our school garden when it has broken down. Newsletters were issued to parents and all other information and photographs were displayed on The Green School's Notice Board.
Our Green Code is -
Recycling is the way to go.
Fill your bins and don't be slow.
Get rid of all your plastic,
Even bits of old elastic.
Batteries, paper, too
For a cleaner world,
It's up to you.
We have become enlightened in environmental issues. We look forward to taking better care of our environment by - Reducing, Reusing and Recycling.
Our school grounds are attractive and litter free due to the efforts of our students.
We were awarded our first Green Flag in March 2008. It was raised by Keren Chatterton a 6th class student and committee member.
